About Metallic Epoxy Flooring
Metallic epoxy flooring is the premium decorative option for homeowners who want a floor that doubles as a feature. Reflective metallic pigments are suspended in a clear epoxy base and manipulated while wet to create flowing, three-dimensional effects — think rippling water, molten metal, polished marble or a deep pearlescent shimmer. No two metallic floors are ever identical, which is exactly the appeal: your floor is a one-off. It’s a favourite for showpiece garages, home showrooms, retail spaces, offices and even interior living areas where a seamless, high-gloss surface lifts the whole room.
The effect depends entirely on technique, and technique depends on preparation. As with every system we install, the slab is diamond-ground to the correct profile, cracks are repaired, moisture is tested, and a primer is applied so the metallic build coat bonds permanently. The metallic base is then poured and worked with rollers, brushes, solvents and air to draw out the depth and movement. Because the pigments react to how they’re moved, an experienced applicator is the difference between a flat, muddy result and a floor with genuine luminosity and contrast.
Once the metallic layer has cured, we seal it with a clear high-build topcoat — typically a polyurethane or UV-stable polyaspartic — that protects the artwork beneath, adds chemical and abrasion resistance, and delivers the glassy finish metallic floors are known for. We can dial the final sheen from a deep mirror gloss to a softer satin, and add anti-slip aggregate where the floor needs grip without losing the look. The topcoat is the sacrificial wear layer, so the decorative effect stays protected for years.
Metallic floors sit at the premium end of the range because they’re labour-intensive and demand real skill, but the result is unmatched for impact. They suit homeowners building a showcase garage, businesses wanting a memorable showroom or reception, and anyone who wants a hard-wearing floor that looks like nothing else on the street. At your free on-site quote we’ll show you sample boards, talk through colour blends, and recommend whether a metallic epoxy or a hybrid metallic-polyaspartic build best suits your space and light.

Coating Systems for Metallic Epoxy Flooring
We recommend the right system for how you use the space and the condition of your slab. The systems best suited to metallic epoxy flooring are:
- Metallic Epoxy — Reflective metallic pigments worked by hand into a clear epoxy for flowing, marble-like, one-of-a-kind decorative floors.
- Polyaspartic Coatings — Aliphatic polyurea coatings that cure fast and stay UV-stable — used as a high-performance topcoat or full build for speed and sun resistance.
Not sure which is right? Our coating systems guide compares durability, cost, UV stability and cure time side by side.
Surface Preparation Comes First
The single biggest factor in whether your metallic epoxy flooring lasts is what happens before the coating goes down. We diamond-grind the concrete to the correct CSP 2–3 profile, moisture-test the slab, structurally repair cracks and joints, and apply a penetrating primer. Skipping any of this is exactly why cheap coatings bubble, peel and delaminate within months. Read more about how we prepare concrete.
Pricing & Timeframe
As a guide, metallic epoxy flooring typically costs from around $80–$150 per m², depending on the system, the size of the area and the condition of the concrete. Every quote is a fixed price confirmed after we inspect your floor in person — there are no hourly surprises. Most residential floors are completed in a few days, and every job is backed by our 10-year written warranty and $20 million public liability public liability cover.

Surface Preparation
We diamond-grind the concrete to the correct profile, test for moisture, repair any cracks or damage, and apply primer. This step decides whether your floor lasts 10 years or 10 months.
- 03
Base Coat Application
The epoxy base coat is applied to the prepared surface. For flake systems, decorative chips are broadcast at this stage. For metallic systems, pigment and metallic powder are worked into the wet coat.
- 04
Topcoat & Sealing
A clear polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoat is applied for protection, sheen and slip resistance. This is the surface you see and walk on.

Metallic Epoxy Flooring — FAQs
How much does metallic epoxy flooring cost?
Metallic systems typically range from $80 to $150 per square metre. The premium over a standard flake floor reflects the additional labour, the cost of metallic pigments, and the skill required to create the effect. We quote a fixed price after seeing the slab and discussing the look you’re after.
Is every metallic epoxy floor different?
Yes. The pattern is created by hand while the epoxy is wet, so no two floors are ever the same. We can guide the overall colour, contrast and movement to match a sample board, but the fine detail is genuinely one-of-a-kind — that uniqueness is the whole point.
How long does a metallic floor take to install?
Allow three to four days for most residential spaces. Preparation and priming come first, then the metallic build coat is poured and worked, left to cure, and finally sealed with a clear topcoat. The decorative layer can’t be rushed, and the topcoat needs proper cure time before use.
Will the metallic finish fade or yellow over time?
Standard epoxy can amber slightly under heavy direct UV. For sun-exposed rooms or garages with lots of natural light we recommend a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, which keeps the colours true. Indoors, away from strong direct sun, a quality epoxy topcoat holds its appearance for many years.
Is metallic epoxy slippery?
A high-gloss metallic floor can be slick when wet, like any polished surface. Where slip resistance matters — a garage that gets hosed out, or an entry — we broadcast a fine anti-slip aggregate into the topcoat. It adds grip while keeping the decorative look.
Can metallic epoxy go in living areas, not just garages?
Absolutely. Metallic floors are increasingly used in living rooms, hallways, retail spaces and offices for a seamless, designer finish. As long as the substrate is sound concrete (or a suitable prepared screed), we can create a metallic floor almost anywhere indoors.
How do I clean and maintain a metallic floor?
Maintenance is easy: dust-mop or vacuum, then damp-mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. The sealed, seamless surface has no grout lines or pores to trap dirt. Avoid harsh abrasives that could scratch the gloss, and the floor will keep its lustre for years.
How durable is a metallic epoxy floor compared with flake?
Mechanically they’re comparable — both rely on the same diamond-ground bond and a protective topcoat. The metallic layer is decorative; the topcoat does the wearing. With a quality clear coat, a metallic floor handles domestic and light-commercial traffic for well over a decade.
